This Privacy Policy describes how Bekalah ("we", "us", "our") collects, uses, and protects information when you use the Bekalah mobile application and the website bekalah.com (together, the "Service"). Bekalah is a Chechen language learning application providing dictionaries, translation, object recognition learning tools, poems, and content for children.

1. Information We Collect

1.1 Information you provide

  • Account information: when you sign up with email, Google Sign-In, or Apple Sign-In, we receive your email address, display name, and profile picture (if available).
  • User-generated content: any text, images, or contributions you submit through the app (e.g. custom words, forum posts, favourites).
  • Support communications: messages you send us through our contact channels.

1.2 Information collected automatically

  • Device information: device model, operating system version, language, and unique device identifiers.
  • Usage data: features used, search queries inside the app, app version, and crash reports.
  • Push notification tokens: a token used to deliver notifications (via Firebase Cloud Messaging).

1.3 Camera and images (Object Scanner)

The Object Scanner feature uses your device camera to detect objects and match them with Chechen vocabulary. Images captured through this feature are processed to identify objects and are not stored on our servers or used to identify you. Processing happens on your device or on secure processing endpoints and is discarded after the result is returned.

1.4 Information we do not collect

We do not collect your contacts, location, SMS, call history, or files outside of content you explicitly choose to share with the app.

2. How We Use Information

  • To provide and maintain the Service (authentication, syncing favourites, delivering content).
  • To personalize your experience (language preferences, progress, recommendations).
  • To send notifications you have opted in to (daily word, updates).
  • To improve the Service, fix bugs, and analyse aggregated usage.
  • To detect, prevent, and address fraud, abuse, or security issues.
  • To comply with legal obligations.

3. Legal Basis for Processing (EEA/UK users)

If you are in the European Economic Area or United Kingdom, we process your personal data under the following legal bases: (a) performance of our contract with you (providing the Service), (b) your consent (e.g. push notifications), (c) our legitimate interests (improving the Service and preventing abuse), and (d) compliance with legal obligations.

4. How We Share Information

We do not sell your personal data. We share information only with:

  • Service providers who help us operate the Service:
    • Google / Firebase (authentication, database, storage, push notifications, cloud functions, crash reporting)

    • Apple (Sign in with Apple)
  • Legal and safety: when required by law, legal process, or to protect the rights, safety, and property of Bekalah, our users, or others.
  • Business transfers: in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, in which case we will notify you before your data is transferred.

5. International Data Transfers

Our service providers may process data in countries outside your own, including the United States and the European Union. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as Standard Contractual Clauses.

6. Data Retention

We retain your account data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we delete or anonymise your personal data within 30 days, except where we are required to retain it for legal, accounting, or security purposes.

Depending on your location, you may have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you.
  • Correct inaccurate data.
  • Request deletion of your data ("right to be forgotten").

The Service may contain links to third-party websites (e.g. YouTube videos). We are not responsible for the privacy practices of those sites. We encourage you to read their privacy policies.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be notified through the app or by email. The "Last updated" date at the top reflects the latest revision.
